STEVEN MICHEL AND THÉO MERCIER TO RECIEVE THE SILVER LION 2019 OF LA BIENNALE DI VENEZIA
21/01/2019 — Congratulations to Steven Michel en Théo Mercier! On the 18th of January these two French artists have been awarded for The Silver Lion 2019. Their Affordable Solution for Better Living will inaugurate the 13th edition of the festival. Looking forward to the 21st of June, when they will take the award home.
La Biennale di Venezia announced the 2019 Lions for Dance: the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement has been awarded to Alessandro Sciarroni, the Silver Lion has been awarded to Steven Michel and Théo Mercier.
As the motivation states "Steven Michel and Théo Mercier are two committed young artists whose career we should pay great attention to. They come from a generation of creators who love to collaborate with others and move from project to project. Both create choreographic mise-en-scènes in which they explore the material of our culture, our space and our time. The bodies become objects and the objects move towards embodied, material, violent thought. These "plastic choreographer-artists" offer us strange parties, where the truth of falsity and the falsity of truth trigger thoughtful landscapes, devoid of nature, a new, crude, enchantment”.
On the 21st of June Steven and Théo will present their Affordable Solution for Better Living during the opening day of he 13th International Festival of Contemporary Dance (21 - 30 June). The Awards Ceremony will take place at Ca’ Giustinian, the headquarters of the Biennale.
