Are we not drawn onward to new erA est l’une des œuvres théâtrales les plus pures d’Ontroerend Goed. Dans le concept, la forme et le contenu se rejoignent parfaitement. Au centre de la performance se trouve un “point zéro” fictif catastrophique, scientifiquement revendiqué, décrit et prédit. C’est le moment où l’humanité a fait tellement de dégâts à la planète qu’elle est devenue inhabitable pour notre espèce. À partir de ce moment, la performance va et vient, créant un palindrome d’inévitabilité et de contemplation mélancolique.
Comme son titre l’indique, cette performance est un palindrome. Il se lit d’avant en arrière et d’arrière en avant. Parce que si certains gens croient que l’humanité avance, d’autres sont convaincus du contraire. D’aucuns disent que le monde approche de sa fin, alors que les autres les traitent de prophètes de malheur. Peu importe qui a raison, il est sûr que dans notre quête du progrès, nous avons modifié drastiquement ce monde dans lequel nous vivons. Nos actions sont-elles irréversibles ou pouvons-nous faire marche arrière ?
C’est au public de décider. Ce qui est certain, c’est que nous sommes à un moment charnière qui définira à quoi ressemblera notre avenir.
Are we not drawn onward to new erA est un spectacle visuellement métaphorique, mais socialement pertinent et très actuel, qui aborde les grandes questions de notre époque, telles que le changement climatique et l’agitation politique.
Le spectacle a remporté le Fringe First Award 2019 et a été nommé pour le Total Theatre Award à Édimbourg. Le spectacle comprend une performance en direct des “Disintegration Loops” de William Basinski. Présenté par l’Ensemble Spectra, en collaboration avec le compositeur.
