Jeremy Nedd et les danseurs de pantsula d’Impilo Mapantsula se servent des westerns comme point de départ pour inventer de nouvelles histoires et mythes. Avec son interprétation du lasso, Jeremy Nedd ouvre un dialogue entre deux mondes opposés dans le cadre de la poursuite de sa collaboration avec Impilo Mapantsula, un réseau international d’artistes qui œuvre à préserver l’héritage vivant de la pantsula.

Le western en tant que genre cinématographique recourt de manière explicite aux tropismes autour du héros, l’ « autre » et les étendues vides qu’ils cherchent à occuper. Un nombre de personnages et d’images provenant de ces archétypes ont imprimé profondément dans l’imaginaire collectif mais ce ne sont certainement pas des images de pantsula…

How a falling star lit up the purple sky est un poème visuel dynamique qui propose un changement de paradigme, repensant l’idée de l’archétype et invitant à une réévaluation des espaces psychiques et géographiques occupés par les westerns, l’ouest sauvage et le sud.
